At FEI I work in the Software Development Group. We try more and more to cooperate between sites and I am currently mostly involved in Software Testing for Transmission Electron Microscopes.
Besides my normal work I am also member of and contact person for the christian trade union: the CNV
The best way to enjoy nature is to walk in the nature, something I like to do. Especially mountains have strong attraction to me and I have ben hiking in the mountains a lot (see my Photo Album).
To be fit I like to do some sport. I live 6.5 km from my work and four days of the week I go on the bike and one day on foot. And including the lunch walk I walk approx. 15 km that day. Walking to work instead of biking is relaxing. It takes me 50-55 minutes.
More people should do the same, when they work not far from work, like me.
Via a teambuilding training of the working council I was introduced to mountainbiking. That was so much fun that I started to look on internet and I bought an ATB second -hand from somebody who built the bike himself. That way I got a good ATB from relatively little money.
After my accident (May 2006) the mountain-bike was total-loss, but with a new frame and new parts I managed to re-build an even nicer bike. See more about this at the bottom of this page.
From several self-assessment tests it became clear that creative communication is a strength and passion of me. My new "tag" or signature shows it: "FM-Design Creative Communications".
Therefore I like to do DTP. I was member of a PR committee of a secondary school, when my children were still on that school. I do PR work for and am member of a mediagroup of the Evangelische Baptisten Gemeente "Het Baken" (Evangelical Baptist Community "The Beacon"). Also at work people know to find me when a jubilee invitation card, annual report, etc. has to be made. I am also webmaster for the Working council pages on the intranet.
And that is why I also like building web sites and keep exploring layout ideas and design. In the mean time I have become webmaster for a number of websites:
- http://zending-amazones.nl - http://deschakel-cc.nl - http://ebg-hetbaken.nl
and of course this site
It goes without saying that building these sites and making music (for ministry) cost a lot of time and money (PC, electricity, software, hosting, hardware, etc.) I would like to spend more time in this work.

The possiblities of modern photo and video camera's is phenominal. However they all lack one important specifiaction: none of these tools can let the time go slower, so that we can enjoy it more :o)
Voor de fotocamera, een Canon Powershot A95 compact camera vond ik het zoombereik wel beperkt. For the photo camera, a Canon Powershot A95 compact camera I found the zoom range limited. However the wide angle and tele adapter lenses are ridiculously expensive in the Netherlands. But I found a good alternative at Bugeye Digital where the set of lenses, even with the also rediculously high shipping costs were about half price.
See the effect of e.g. the TIFFEN 0.56 Wide Angle Lens by moving the cursor over the photo below, which is taken the the camera's default wideangle setting. Then you see the picture with same position and camera settings, however incl. the Tiffen Lens.
That is because I traded my KN7000 in for the Yamaha "Flag-ship" Tyros-2 After having heard the Tyros-2, and admired during two well-organized demo-days at my retailer: Keyboard-centrum.
During such a demo-day, while enjoying a nice free cup of coffee with cake or a cold drink, there is a top-demonstrator like Michel Voncken or Peter Baartmans to give demos' on several different keyboards and piano's. You can ask your questions and get all the time of attention you want. And... the Tyros2 and all the newest keyboards and piano's are on stock at the Keyboard-centrum, that has won Yamaha's Best Dealer Award!.
One of my most favorite sites to my music hobby is the site I frequently visit and recently got a subdomain for:
Of course I like to present you some of the music I created on my Tyros-2.
In the near future I hope to add new songs to the collection.

Any donation for my charity projects is welcome and all payments via this site will be used 100% for the charity projects as presented on this site!
Beside my Tyros-2 I also purchased my former keyboards at "KeyboardCentrum" in Eindhoven. The biggest advantage of buying a keyboard there is the exceptional customer-friendliness. You become automatically member of their user club, that gives you the opportunity of interesting discounts, workshops, etc.
Now here are some examples of playing on my former keyboard, the KN7000. At first two own compositions, of which the first is very remarkable, because I got the melody in a dream and could remember it the next day still and play it from my head as if automatic and practised. The second improvisation is what I produced that same day; apparently it was an Inspiring day.

For those who want to receive the music as mp3, can send a request.
For some time I will not add more music to this list, becasue of the host space it requires and because I need sponsorschip (see my vision for life).
The KN7000 is especially known for its nice Organ sounds.

For the KN7000 and KN2600 a friend and I developed a KN-SD-Explorertool. For the customers there is in the mean time a FAQ and Tutorial page.
And also a page on the KN7000.net site.
Below are some cartoons about my music background, made by the same guy who draw the cartoons of the motorcycles (click on the pictures to get a large version)
My revitalized hobby:

Recently I have also experienced that I cannot deny my background interests. Since the age of 18 I started riding motorcycles. I got a special practicing driving license and used my father's old timer, a BMW R51/2. In reality the bike was not black as on the picture, but light blue metallic.
By the way, in the Netherlands there is a shop, which is paradise for BMW enthusiasts. They sell all parts fro all BMW types from the fifties until now. Great for people who like to restores old-timers: http://www.hobbyist.nl

My first own motorcycle was a Jawa 250cc. I did not ride it very long, about one year, because compared with my father's bike it was not that fun. It was more a kind of oversized heavy twostroke moped. It has 14 hp. But it was not very thirsty. It ran approx. 1 liter on 30 km. Anyway the motor was OK in the series; a good start, to slowly grow to heavier and faster machines.

One day I ran into an advertisement about a cheap, but good looking bike: a Benelli Tornado 650cc. This bike was of couse much more powerful. Because I was not used to the power, I did not notice during the test run, that something was wrong. Later we discoverd a hole in one of the pistons. That explained the low price. But my father's original profession was car engineering and repair, so I was lucky. The Benelli drove like a real italian machine, very good, with Ceriani forefork, Kawasaki steering damper en Koni back fairing. But it also vibrated heavily, which damaged all kind of parts, one by one, like back light, RPM cable, etc.

The Benelli was more about repairing than riding. For my study , and later work, I knew I would going to drive longer distances, so I wanted more quality, a better bike, that I could trust.
So I traded my Benelli in for a BMW R75/5 at a motor shop in Rotterdam. The bike was not cosmetically nice. The tank was light shampoo green metallic, disgusting in one word.
This BMW have I with my father (better said: has my father with me) taken apart and sandpapered and painted all with original BMW paint system. I also purchased a "Jos Schurgers" steering screen that we also painted in the same colour (red metallic). And with this bike I have made over 100.000 km, first to school (75 km per day), then in the weekends going home (330 km each weekend).
I really enjoyed the bike and has no or only little problems of normal wear (tyres, ignition points, etc.) However when my wife became pregnant, I sold my bike to a motorshop, because we also had a house and car and other hobbies, and because I work so close by, that I used the bike for less than 2000 km per year.
On the Technical Higschool a colleague student was good in cartoon drawing en also had a motorcycle. Here are some of his drawings: (for large pictures, just click on them)
But now, in June 2004 and almost 20 years later, I did buy a motorcycle again, a R100RT. A friend of me had his motor for sale and when I heard the price and looked on internet for average pricing of aged "classic" bikes, my blood started bubbling again. So the motorcycling hobby is reborn.
BMW R100RT (1987)
During the EMC Rally (European Motorcyclists for Christ) I was in the neighbourhood of a motor shop: where some interesting bikes were in the show room. I went there, was received very hospitable, got opportunity to ride a test ride and fell in love with it. So my new cycle (after trade in of the R100RT) is:
When you click on the logo, you enter a (Dutch) website of a BMW K-lub Zuid, that I joined. While surfing the internet I came on the forum of the K-lub en via a link to the website.
My favorite BMW motorcycle retailer is:

At 11th of May I unfortunately had a severe accident. I must have had protection angels with me, because apart of broken teething, an open wound up to the bone on my right leg and several plane woundson my left arm, both hands and knees, I had no severe injuries like brain damage or worse.
The major material damage is of course the MTB. The insurance expert declared it total-loss. Below is a picture of the original bike, with at the righ a picture that shows the main reason of total-loss: broken frame.

In the time that I was recovering I have been thinking what to do. I could sell the old bike, my standard bike and buy another new bike. Or take the broken ATB apart and replace the frame and all other broken parts. At first I thought that only the frame, saddle and some spokes needed to be replaced. So I decided on re-build of the bike. However at closer look also the crank needed to be replaced. Nevertheless it was still worth it, becasue I could do the job with the money i got from the insurance company. I was lucky to get help of a colleague whose friend (Thanks, Ernie!) is expert on wheels. Below you can see the result of this "renovation". Clicking on each image gives you an enlarged version.
My final thanks go to the mountainbike shop who helped me with the buildup (installing crank and doing the cabling):
